RIU-Diversitat

Finalists. Contest for the landscaping, renaturation, and urbanization of the “Parc at the mouth of the old Turia’s riverbed”.

RIU-Diversitat assumes the complexity and heterogeneity of the landscapes that are generated among the river, placing water as the principal actor that sculpts its way to the sea.

Three landscapes are integrated: riverbank, orchard, and marshland, which add value and richness without losing the river’s identity.

The design contest for the parc at the mouth of river aims to complete the landscaping and renaturation of the old Turia’s riverbed started 35 years ago. A solution is sought in order to
respond to the current situation of disconnection and spatial injustice that takes place through the unfinished sections of the parc, in terms of social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

From its source to its mouth, Turia river flows through an infinite number of landscapes, from which the water is the common thread, promoting life creation, patiently sculpting its paths to the sea. Mountain ranges, ravines and torrents, forests, and plains, accompany the river throughout this journey, incorporating tributaries and providing ditches, in a flow of variable intensity that generates richness and diversity.
